Massage and Boundaries

Trauma-Informed Massage Means Boundaries Too

Let’s talk about something that honestly needs to be said more directly within the massage industry.
At Rebel Wellness, trauma-informed massage is not just about soft music, dim lighting, and relaxation. It is about safety. Boundaries. Consent. Professionalism. Nervous system awareness. Respect.
For both the client and the practitioner.
Unfortunately, the massage industry has spent years fighting against harmful stereotypes created by businesses operating outside ethical and legal massage practice. And when one of “those” establishments gets shut down, there is often a noticeable shift where solicitors start floating around searching for the next place to test boundaries.
Let me be very clear:
Rebel Wellness is not that place.!!!!
The coded language, suggestive jokes, “accidental” comments, fishing questions, inappropriate requests, and attempts to test professional boundaries are not unrecognized.
Massage therapists hear the code words. We recognize the behavior patterns. And many therapists, especially women in this industry, have experienced situations that crossed lines far beyond simple discomfort.
At Rebel Wellness, there is a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, solicitation, intimidation, explicit comments, inappropriate behavior, or boundary violations of any kind.
This includes:
sexual comments or jokes
inappropriate questions
solicitation attempts
attempts to negotiate boundaries
intimidation or manipulation
repeated testing of professional limits
inappropriate touching or exposure
disguised “code word” language used to solicit illegal activity
And to be honest, I do not even like the term MASSUSE!
That just gives me the tummy twirls and I wanna vomit!
Information surrounding inappropriate conduct may be documented, collected, and properly reported when necessary.
Not because massage therapists are “overreacting.”Not because boundaries are negotiable. And certainly not because professionalism should require tolerance for harassment.
But because safety matters.
Trauma-informed care means recognizing that safety is not one-sided. Practitioners deserve safe working environments too. And not only trauma informed massage but ALL MASSAGE.
At Rebel Wellness, every session is approached with professionalism, communication, consent, and respect for the individual experience each client brings into the room. Many clients seeking trauma-informed massage are navigating chronic stress, nervous system dysregulation, burnout, pain, grief, anxiety, trauma histories, or emotional exhaustion.
That kind of work requires trust.
And trust cannot exist where boundaries are ignored.
The reality is that massage therapy is healthcare-adjacent bodywork. It is skilled, professional care involving anatomy, nervous system regulation, therapeutic touch, pain management, movement, and wellness support.
It is not entertainment.
It is not coded invitation.
And it is not a place for people seeking inappropriate services.
When I am reporting a request to the local authorities and they ask me is sexual healing a thing in massage? Excuse me sir? Not at all!
At Rebel Wellness, the goal is to create an environment where clients can finally stop bracing. A space where the nervous system can downshift. A place where people feel respected, heard, and safe within their body.
That same level of respect is expected in return.
Because true healing environments are built on mutual professionalism, consent, safety, and human dignity.
Always.
